There are times when we may feel alone in our yearning for freedom. Then
we remember our families, our ancestors, and even our Founding Fathers.
But freedom is bigger than any one of us. It is bigger than our families,
ancestors, or even our country.
People who yearn for freedom may be oppressed. Those who fight for
freedom may be killed. But the yearning for freedom outlives all
oppressions.
A German friend led me to “The White Rose”. Originally in German, it has
been translated by a German into English - therefore some phrases may
seem awkward to us. However, please listen to the story. It is a story of
freedom.

The White Rose
In Summer 1942, where unfreedom, hate and lies were the normal
condition of Germany, the first leaflet of the “White Rose” has been given
from hand to hand under Munich students.
The “White Rose” became [the] symbol of an action, with which Hans and
Sophie Scholl together with friends called [for] resistance against the
dictatorship of Hitler. They had to pay with their lives: In February 1943
they fell into the Gestapo’s hands.
The siblings Scholl and their friends could not stop the breakdown of
Germany. But they proved to the whole world that not the entire German
nation became Hitler’s weak-willed slaves.

Nothing is so unworthy of a civilized nation as allowing itself to be governed
without opposition by an irresponsible clique that has yielded to base
instinct. It is certain that today every honest German is ashamed of his
government. Who among us has any conception of the dimensions of
shame that will befall us and our children when one day the veil has fallen
from our eyes and the most horrible of crimes - crimes that infinitely
outdistance every human measure - reach the light of day?
If the German people are already so corrupted and spiritually crushed that
they do not raise a hand, frivolously trusting in a questionable faith in lawful
order of history; if they surrender man’s highest principle, that which raises
him above all other God’s creatures, his free will; if they abandon the will to
take decisive action and turn the wheel of history and thus subject it to
their own rational decision; if they are so devoid of all individuality, have
already gone so far along the road toward turning into a spiritless and
cowardly mass - then, yes, they deserve their downfall.

By means of gradual, treacherous, systematic abuse, the system has put
every man into a spiritual prison. Only now, finding himself lying in fetters,
has he become aware of his fate. Only a few recognized the threat of ruin,
and the reward for their heroic warning was death. We will have more to
say about the fate of these persons.
If everyone waits until the other man makes a start, the messengers of
avenging Nemesis will come steadily closer; then even the last victim will
have been cast senselessly into the maw of the insatiable demon.
Therefore every individual, conscious of his responsibility as a member of
Christian and Western civilization, must defend himself as best he can at
this late hour, he must work against the scourges of mankind, against
fascism and any similar system of totalitarianism. Offer passive resistance -
resistance - wherever you may be, forestall the spread of this atheistic war
machine before it is too late, before the last cities, like Cologne, have been
reduced to rubble, and before the nation’s last young man has given his
blood on some battlefield for the hubris of a sub-human.
Do not forget that every people deserves the regime it is willing to
endure!

Our government is proceeding down the slippery slope of gradual,
treacherous, systematic abuse of our Rights, Liberty, and Freedom.
If we, as Americans, refuse to acknowledge the danger of letting our current
oligarchy gain enough power to reign supreme, we may proceed down the
same destructive path as did Germany some sixty years ago.
Our current government, an amalgam of like-minded Democrats and
Republicans, is creating an increasingly united front - an oligarchy. What
difference does it make if our government uses two names instead of one
(as did the Nazis), if they plan to rule us by their Socialist values rather
than by the values of our Constitution.
The time for us to peacefully restore our Constitution is nearly past. We
must not let it slip away, for then the blood of our children will be on our
hands for letting our representatives become our rulers.
We can still win at the ballot box - but the window of opportunity grows
smaller with each passing election.
Our compromises have brought us to the brink of destruction. Our attempts
to be “realistic” have deluded us into subservience. Soon, it will be Liberty
and our Rights which no longer are “viable”.
Choose wisely when you vote. Consider the reality of the German experience, and the millions who died. It can happen here.
