Some of you older members may remmber sometime back about making up bp pistols from parts from diferant makers, well i made one. i got this old brassframe for 5 bucks no screws no grips nothing but a bare frame. I do not hold with brass frames but haveing said that i thought it might make a good prodjecek gun,I started with a ubertie cylinder, bye the way the frame is a asm internel parts are asm.asp.ubertie.emf.pietta.it took some filing and grinding but i got there, the cylinder is a tad bit sloppy(meaning some play) but i took her out for a spin around the range, ist prob was p caps was not going of? so i fixed that prob i just put another set on much better this time, all in all it shoots good, i might tweak about a bit to make it more of a shooter or i might give it to a bud of mine he wants a bp pistol. So you can mix and macht parts if you are willing to work at it. And for my next trick( this will get you going) can you fit a 1851 cylinder on a 1858 rem. Well anything is poss right?????. Bye the way if i had a camra i would show picts so you will have to take my word for it.;):D

That might take some doing. The big hole for the arbor wouldn't be too hard to get around but the cylinder ratchet is vastly different between the two. I suppose if you had a machine shop it might could be done but would probably be easier to make a cylinder from scratch.

it's fun to mix/match Colt parts and make a working gun ala Tuco...

the Colt cylinder won't adapt to a Rem frame, different arbor size, breech-to-bore dimension, totally different design.

why bother, when new cylinders are $60 each blued ?

I am well aware that the two smokers are dif. but what i am
saying is it can be done, just for the hell of it.
If they can make a bp out of a ak auto then anything is
poss. Just last week they was a guy at the range with a
1911 auto pistol that he made into a bp shooter and it
works to, it looked weird but each to there owen, and we
all have seen some funky looking guns on this forum.:D

How'd he make a BP shooter of the 1911? Just loaded with BP, instead of smokeless? That don't make a new type of gun.
Load 44 mag and 357 mag with BP and you heve BP smell and smoke, but not nearly the velocity of smokeless, so what's the advantage?

We pour powder, ball and ram, cap and shoot. They size and decap, prime and charge, ball and crimp, and go shoot repro shoots.

You WANNA shoot cartridge, go buy cartridge guns.

I have a bunch of them. I simply mostly quit shooting them since I became addicted to BP cap'n ballers. They are more fun, period.

An hour to shoot 60 rounds, with loading, or slap pre-loaded mags into an auto.

No comparison.

Cheers,

George

Colt walker and whitneyville dragoon parts

Is it possible to take a Colt Walker and put a 7.5 inch barrel from a dragoon and change the plunger while useing the loading lever with the catch on it, b/c there doesnt seem to be much diff. between a walker and a whitneyville dragoon....maybe I'm wrong, just wondering...

The location of the wedge would make it difficult. If you used the Dragoon barrel it would require a custom made arbor.
Why not just shorten the Walker barrel and cut the dovetail for the lever latch? That would be much easier.

WHO said anything about cartridge guns?????.
IF you WANNA get the story right, you WANNA read
more carefully. And for your info, the first saa that
used cartridge used bp.:p

NOW to the QS about the 1911.
The guy took the guts out of the frame, and built
new internalls to shoot bp. I asked the guy how
much work was involed to put it together, but for
some reson he was not giveing to much away.
But has far as i could see he was useing the frame
and the rest was built by him.:D
