AMA fires executive vice president
CHICAGO -- The American Medical Association on Friday fired
Executive Vice President E. Ratcliffe Anderson Jr., who earlier this month
sued the organization for refusing to allow him to terminate the head of the
AMA legal department.
Anderson's suit, filed on June 18, said the head of the legal department
sold AMA property in downtown Chicago for $23.5 million in 1998, which
Anderson claimed was $13.5 million below fair market value. The AMA has
called the suit frivolous.
The AMA said Dr. Robert W. Gilmore would take over Anderson's
responsibilities and a nationwide search for a replacement will be
initiated.
"The American Medical Association Board of Trustees announced today it is
terminating the contract of its executive vice president, E. Ratcliffe
Anderson Jr., M.D., pursuant to the terms of his employment contract," the
AMA said in a statement.
