The 357 SIG 1911

The last interesting tidbit from SHOT show for me was SIG posting a picture of a picture of a two boxes of 357 SIG ammo and a 1911 magazine in 357 SIG. It had the tag line "Did someone ask about the 1911 in .357SIG?":

I like 1911s, but I've not shot them in something other than 45 ACP. I do get the point of them in 9mm: they're cheaper to shoot. But a 1911 in a caliber harder to find and often more expensive than 45 ACP?

What about the 1911 lovers on this forum? What do you think?

Well, why not?

Doesn't hurt anything and may be fun for some.

However there is already the 38 Super which has been in 1911s since 1929. It gives you a wider variety of bullet weights to reload with. It only lags about 50-100 fps slower than the .357 Sig with the same 125 weight and type bullet. It can go faster than the .357 Sig with heavier bullets as well. Also gives you at least 1 extra round per mag.

Then there is the 9x23 Winchester which with a 125 gr. bullet can easily go 100 fps faster than the 357 Sig and still has room for a heavier bullet.

Then of course the 10mm.

So I don't personally feel the need but why not?

Would love to see a Colt Commander in 9x23.

In fact the Colt Defender, to me, is overpowered in .45 ACP and a version in .357 Sig or 9x23 would be a better idea.

Even though the .357 SIG may be more powerful, I would still prefer a 1911 in .38 Super. More traditional.

I say why not, the more guns and options they put out the better. I dont see why anyone would say no to any caliber options, if someone already shoots the 357Sig in another gun they may not want to start on another caliber but they still like the 1911 platform so...

I had posted a thread here several years ago asking why nobody was making a 1911 in 357 Sig. I was told that between the 38 Super and the 10mm, plus other rounds like 9X23, that there really wasn't a reason to build one. I think that it's pretty neat that somebody finally did, but who knows how well it will sell.
