NRA-ILA Alert

This week, the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee approved NRA-supported “Castle Doctrine” legislation, House Bill 284, sponsored by Representative Joe Driver (R-113), which would protect homeowners, drivers, and business owners against criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits for the lawful use of force to defend themselves and others. The bill now moves to the House Calendars Committee, which will determine if and when the full House will vote on it.

Please begin contacting members of the House Calendars Committee and urge them to support HB 284. A list of committee members and their contact information can be found at www.house.state.tx.us/committees/050.htm.

Also this week, the Senate Jurisprudence Committee approved Senate Bill 378, sponsored by Senator Jeff Wentworth (R-25), the Senate companion bill to HB 284.

It may be several weeks before the full Senate considers SB 378, but please begin contacting your Senators and urge them to support SB 378. A list of Senators and their contact information can be found at www.senate.state.tx.us/75r/senate/Members.htm.

For help identifying your State Senator, please use the "Write Your Representative" feature found at www.NRAILA.org.

Although both HB 284 & SB 378 have widespread support in the Legislature, the bills are facing strong opposition by district and county attorneys from urban areas, so your lawmakers need to hear from you!
