Testing some projectiles in the TC Hawken

I'm hunting with this TC this season so while at Academy I picked up a few different bullets to try. Since the Maxi ball WILL NOT go in this thing without a 3lb sledge I tried some different bullets. Today I tried 240 gr. Hornady XTP in a green low drag sabot, 295gr. Powerbelt copper Aerotip, 295 grain Powerbelt Pure lead hollow point, and .490 PRB in a .015" ticking patch. I fired all of these over 80 grains Pyrodex RS (yes I left the black at home) and at 25 yards. The Powerbelt copper Aero tip did the best with the Hornady XTP in a sabot did the second best. The others not so great, and of course the Round ball not doing so well. I let my F.I.L fire a round ball just to make sure I wasn't pulling or something. I'm Convinced that this rifle with its half a@# twist just shoots everything HALF A@# [emoji2] Sure wish I could find a Green Mountain IBS round ball barrel. I would change barrels in a heartbeat. I just like shooting roundball. My GPR makes the TC look stupid [emoji3] But I love the TC'S look and love the triggers and lock.

Maybe play with the powder charge. I've had 50's with a 1:48 twist that shot round balls very well with 90 grains. Ironically my 54 with a round ball twist likes the same charge.

Glad to help, keep one thing in mind with those, you want the powder charge up toward the top end.
Also make sure your gun has the 1 in 48 twist. The 1 in 24 they don't work well.

My gun when I had it built was maxed out by TC at 100 GR with 777. I have never had anything work well at the top end but 90 always works best for mine. I would start at 70 and work up.
Mine was built back in the 70's

I found some Maxi Hunter's in 350 grain this morning. I'm gonna track down some 275's and try those also. Ozzieman which weight does the best in yours? And does anyone make a mold for these type bullets?

T/C Maxi-Hunter Molds
#7375 - .50 cal, 350 gr Maxi-Hunter

I know that at one time they did make molds and there are some on E bay but no idea now.
The only one I have ever used was the 350. I didn't even know there was a 275.
I see they have them at midway usa

I have also had luck with their maxi ball and I know that midway has molds for that one.
