Taurus 809 Series with external hammer.

It's been so long, I've almost forgotten how to do this. I bought a Taurus a couple of weeks ago, and finally found time to take it to the range. I like this gun, I really do, but the trigger sucks.

The first time I fired it, I had the trigger depressed so hard, at first I thought I forgot to take the safety down. It fired, but I dam near ruined my index finger after 100 rounds. In spite of that I did manage to get into sync with it, and my target results were very good for an old man.

I purchased the gun online, so I'd rather try and fix the problem myself before I do anything else. I know 100 rounds isn't much for breakin, and maybe the trigger will improve with another 1-200 rounds. Does anyone have any experience, advice or suggestions?
