Fellow shooter at the range was having issues with their Taurus today. Turns out the spring loaded safety plunger was missing. How is it possible for the whole thing to fly off?

It's also a Taurus, so go figure.

Wow. Taurus bashing in the first reply. If I had a problem with a Taurus I am pretty sure I would take it to a different forum rather than deal with the haters.

Only thing I can think of the safety worked it's way out and the plunger launched. Normally the spring has a bend in it so it won't shoot out.

There is nothing relating to any safety on a 1911 that is "pinned" in place. Are we talking about the firing pin safety plunger in the slide, or the thumb safety/slide stop plunger on the left side of the receiver? If the problem is the thumb safety plunger assembly, is it just the spring and plunger that went AWOL, or did the entire plunger tube separate from the receiver?
