sweating on a ramp

I'm going to try to solder on a ramp for the front sight on my shotgun barrel. My plan, is to carefully find top center of the barrel, mark the area with the ramp then remove the blueing. Then use talc to keep the solder from going where it isn't needed. I'm also going to use a heat stop paste to keep the heat off the barrel lug that is soldered on at the factory. Is there anything I'm missing or a better way to do this? markmcj

Mark, I don't see anything. I'd recommend Silvaloy ribbon solder. It flows at 1205deg. Brownells also sells a "regular" solder in ribbon form called Hi Temp, Hi Force that will work well. George
