Surplus ammo in Savage Model 11

I have recently purchased a Savage model 11 trophy hunter package with the Nikon pro staff and the accutrigger.

My question is this. Is the 1/10 barrel going to be OK with 150 grain 7.62 x 51 surplus. It looks like 168 grain and up projectiles are better. I have a bunch of 7.62 x 51 Santa Barbara that I would like to run through this rifle.

Picked it up for a CETME that I never cared for.

Any thoughts?

If the bolt closes with normal effort, you're good to go.

A 1:10 twist is pretty much a standard for 30-caliber. Works well with bullets from 80 grains on up to 180, that I know of from shooting.

a 10 twist will stabilize 220 grain bullets.

could you define what guys are telling you about short tight chambers in Savage? What is base dimension of cases from from them. LC 7.62 will be .468". commercial 308 will be .465". I seriously doubt you will find a 308 with a chamber tighter than .471 but if you do you lucked out.
