SuperThin 9mm auto for conceal carry

I recently bought a very beat up S&W mod 59
pistol with single stack mag and I had
removed the pistol grips to work on the finish
of the pistol a little and I have decided to
leave the grips off as the width of the
resulting pistol handle is then only 3/4
of an inch. ( same width as a Keltec 380
pocket pistol )

So far it shoots pretty good in that configuration
but I am considering wrapping some kind of tape
around the handle to keep the pocket lint out of
the magazine area.
There is a genetic part of me that ( of course)
wants to use good old fashioned duct tape but
I am looking for something better and so far the
best I have found is sailboat repair tape.

As soon as I buy a new digital camera I will share
photos. In the meantime it looks pretty awesome
without any grips at all.

I also measured a Glock 17 and it is 25mm wide across the slide. Not as comfortable to shoot as a fullsize steel pistol (like my former CZ75) but it is very nice carry piece. In a IWB holster it's practically invisible.

If you are worried about the finish, I wouldnt put duct tape around anything to do with my guns.... I'm sure ther are some after market grips some where that are super thin that you can slip over or screw onto the grip.. Look into the Pacmyr slip on sleeves, they are really thin and they might do the job....

I have a S&W 659 - double stacked stainless 9mm. I too dislike the plastic grips, have tried others, but all are too thick for my liking. What I am considering doing is making some inserts (if possible) for the cutouts in the magwell/grip out of faux ivory. If anyone has any tips on how this can be done in an attractive, sturdy manner, I'd like to know.

Just cut a piece of bicycle inner tube whatever length you need.
Make sure the diameter is small enough to make a snug fit.
This won't damage anything and you can always put the grips back on if you want to sell it later.

You can also use Shrink Wrap that's normally used to hold electrical wires.

I was just going to say that~! Industrial electrical shrink tube would be a good and pretty durable solution. Much better than duct tape - that would tend to shed sticky ickies.

You could cut some grips out of very thin carbon fiber or plastic that wouldn't really widen the grip. I'm thinking the stuff used on the instrument panels of boats. i used to have a web site, the guys on Scream&fly or offshoreonly should be able to help.

My apologies, my gun is the SW mod 39 which is the single stack
9mm pistol Without the grips, the handle is approx the same
width as the double stack magazine all by itself. ie 3/4 inch.

This is seriously thin when you start comparing grip widths.

So far the bicycle inner tube or the electronic shrink wrap
sounds perfect. the shrink wrap I know is tough and comes
in wild colors although I would stick with black I think.

Did anyone actually read the OP?

Amazing!!

(OK, I know about a third of you did, but the others baffle me.)

Yeah I thought that was kinda funny myself. :)

Anyways, I'd try either the shrink wrap or some tennis racquet grip wrap. I've used the same wrap I use on my racquetball racquet on a couple firearms but that was with the grips still attached so YMMV. Good luck on your search.
