Super Speed Brass won't fit shellholder...

So, I've got a bunch of .257Roberts brass that's been formed to 6mm Rem. Don't ask me why, my uncle did it many years ago.

The cases are headstamped "Super Speed" and they won't fit in any of my Lee #2 shellholders or the lee #2 case trimmer shellholder.

Since the shellholder works for all other brass that uses that size, I assume the brass is out of spec. Does anybody use this brass and/or know a shellholder that will work with this brass?

Should be an RCBS #11, but I couldn't tell you which Lee number that equates to.

Honestly I'm kind of surprised to learn you can fire form .257 to 6mm.

I've got a bunch of other brass that fits the Lee #2. Only the ones headstamped Super Speed don't fit. The extractor groove is just a teeeeennny bit narrower.

I can't for the life of me figure out WHY you'd form Rob brass to 6mm, as it seems like the former is far more rare than the later, but maybe that hasn't always been the case.

Many of the rounds have been loaded for at least 20 years, some probably over 30, and I assume that the brass is considerably older than even that.

I ran into that with my Ruger,M-77 in 7 X57. I acquired a couple of OLD boxes of win super-speed FACTORY ammo. These boxes were old from back in the 50's. They weren't collector items yet when I bought them and I was going to shoot them. The bolt wouldn't close on the gun with those cartridges. Why I don't really know, but I saved them for 40 some years and just sold them this winter to a collector.

Interesting.

Well, the gun isn't bothered by them at all.

I've solved the problem anyway, nothing a dremel and 5 minutes won't cure.:D

The original rim size of the 7X57 was not the 0.470" of the -06. There used to be a different shell holder. Later the size was universalized.

It if was Euro spec brass you need the #3 Lee. Same as 6.5x55 or 9.3x62.

It was funny, I was using Win 6.5x55 brass and I thought that since it was American I could use the #2 shell holder. I was wrong.
