• Anything ‘published’ on the web is viewed as intellectual property and, regardless of whether it displays a copyright symbol or not, is therefore copyrighted by the originator. The only exception to this is if there is a “free and unrestricted reuse” statement associated with the work.

In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Thank you for your cooperation and your participation in TFL, the leading online forum for firearms enthusiasts.

Suggested technical/content changes to TFL?

Anything from additions or changes to the library and links pages, to more outlandish requests like a TFL bittorrent tracker (which is not likely because it's not really relevant, and also because of ongoing legal issues with bittorrent trackers and because Derek tried it on THR and it went nowhere).

I'm curious what changes people would like to see, and particularly if several people have some of the same ideas.

I would like to see thumbnails.

Where instead if just tacking an IMG, that can be huge and slow dialup users down, they could thumbnail it. If people want to see bigger pictures, they could click on the thumbnail.

It would work kind of like the attachments, except for web based pictures.

I hope you can understand that, I'm not even sure I do.

Yeah, I understand, but that's a relatively complex php thing, and even then it wouldn't work as you imagine.

Since linked images never go through the TFL server, the php script would have to open a connection to the remote server (which stock vbulletin never does), download the image, figure out what the dimensions are, and use that to add height= and width= properties to the image tag.

But height= and width= don't actually change the downloaded image, so even though the image would be smaller, it would still take just as long to download.

I would like to see a simple icon to click on to go to the next page in New Posts instead of needing to get the cursor onto the next page number.

e.g. I am on page 9 and instead of clicking on the tiny 10 to go to the next page, there would be a bigger 'Next Page' icon to hit.

Create a voting class of threads...

1. The vote would last 30 days.
2. The results can be easily viewed by name and indication of vote.
3. The votes would be tallied.
4. Perhaps have a single line "notation" applied to each vote.

Example.

Vote on the most popular caliber
Vote on the most popular frame
vote on the most popular retailer
Vote on the most popular range
Vote on the most constructive politician
VOte on the most destructive politician

You get the idea, the current problem is that the threads that try to get a tally going...like todays "how many NRA mambers do we have" will be lost in the shuffle in a couple of days.

Just a thought.
