Stuck Case Removal!!!

Can anyone recommend a good way to remove stuck cases without damaging the die/ decapping unit. I have had a couple of stuck cases lately, and I got them out (usually with voilence!) but it has been at the expense of my decapping units each time. Once was RCBS .223 dies, and the last time it was .270 in Lee RGB dies.
Thanks for any help you can give, please tell me I'm an idiot and there is an easy way to get the boogers out!

(I usually run a dowel or metal rod just big enough to fit down through the top off the die and then hammer it through.)

I ruined an RCBS die once by beating it to death with a claw hammer and a punch. I have since learned to use a lot more lube. You may try throwing it in the freezer first but the dowels are the way to go.

First you ought to consider the lube you are using? Hornady One Shot sucks!
I really like Imperial Die Wax for lube! Keep the fingers lubed and that dipenses plenty of lube!

Next, buy a stuck case removal tool set up!

Hornady One Shot sucks!

My experience differs.

As a note to those interested, there are two kinds of Hornady One Shot:One Shot Gun Cleaner and Dry Lube and One Shot Case Lube - they are not interchangeable.

It will happen to every reloader eventually! That is why I put a stuck case remover on my list of equipment for the new reloader.

As previously mentioned, the problem is caused by lack of lubrication. In my 48 years of reloading, I have found Imperial Sizing Die Wax to be the best lubricant.

The only time I've had stuck cases is because of "lack of lube". I have also switched from "one shot" to Lee's case lube and never had a problem since. Cleaning is a breeze & it doesn't contaminate the powder charge.

Thanks for the help on the stuck case removal tools. I went to Lowe's and after about 10 minutes and $6, I have everything I need! Hopefully now I will never have to use any of them!

Toolman,

The case I stuck was using One Shot. Since then I've read that placing the cases in a zip-loc bag and spraying them, then working cases in the bag a bit before sizing.
I've done that with several hundred large rifle cases now and no more trouble. Save the zip-loc and reuse it. The dry lube inside dissolves when used again actually helping the lubing process.
