Stopped at Walmart today...

They had more 22 ammo on the shelve than I have seen in 3 years. Winchester, two flavors of CCI and even some 22 Magnums. I didn't buy any but I have not seen so much at one time in a while. Hope it's a trend. This ridiculous shortage has gone on way too long.

What was the pricing like?

I don't shoot much .22, but the last I bought was about 4 years ago before Sandy Hook and the last Presidential Election. I think I was paying around $15.00 for Remington bulk packs of 525 rounds. I still have most of it.

Locally I've seen a fairly steady supply now over the past 3-4 months. While prices may never return to the past, it sure is nice to see a supply on the shelves again.

Prices are getting into the $0.05/ rd range again. A lot of people who bought it just to have it are getting wallet and storage fatigue. If it is going to just sit on the shelf buying 10K rounds makes no sense.

I *think* what you're seeing is the relenting of the 22 hoarders/resellers...finally. Just in my little corner of the world I have heard of/known no less than 4 people who thought they could make a living buying 22LR from the store and reselling it on armslist/gun shows/where ever. I couldn't find 22LR at any big box store around here for the longest time, some stores perhaps you still can't. Go to a little mom n pop shop and there's tons of 22LR ammo. Most likely reason is the hoarders/reseller crowd A: do not know about the ammo cache at the mom-n-pop store or they (most likely) B: have a friend/insider at wally world who informs them when the 22LR hits the shelf so they can arrive before anyone else purchases it. 22LR started showing up at the little shop near me over a year ago, and they have had a steady supply since so I would believe the *shortage* is long gone. If walmart hasn't had anything on the shelf lately it's more likely because there is someone buying it up to resell it

BC- I have never believed the shortage was due to buying and or hoarding. The stores were not being supplied. Managers told me they were getting 5% or less of usual deliveries. That has nothing to do with demand, that's a supply issue.

The Winchesters were 100 round boxes of the good stuff, 40 grin HPs at 1400 FPS priced at $9.47. CCIs were 100 count HPs (forget weight) at $7.47. CCI all lead RN standard velocity at $3.59/50. I think the mags were CCI at $12.97. Maybe $13.97.

I got 2 boxes of CCI Copper bullets at WW this morning. Never heard of them before. Are they a California compliant bullet? I got two boxes to see how it shoots in my rimfires. Not exactly cheap however, at $7.47 for 50 rds.

That has not been my experience at the Walmarts I visit. I primarily visit two stores, but there are others to choose from in my area. I seldom even look for 22 rimfire ammo at Walmart any more and I visit at least once a week. But when I do, like two days ago, no 22 LR ammo. No rimfire ammo at all.

Stopped by Cabelas yesterday and was impressed with the variety that they had on the shelf. I don't understand why Walmart is not in the same boat unless they choose not to have rimfire ammo in stock.

Unbelievable. I was in my local WalMart this morning and actually saw, with my very own beady little eyes, over 50 boxes of 100 count Winchester .22lr. About 20 boxes of the 1300 fps stuff at $8 per box, and the rest in that 1425 fps stuff at $10 per box. First time in well over a year since I've seen any there. Prior, there was another dry spell of a year.

Maybe things are starting to turn around? That is until the November election, then here we go again.

I have been visiting local Dick's Sporting Goods and Academy and both seem to have plenty of .22LR on the shelf. Walmarts are still hit and miss.

The one notable observation which has seemed universal amongst the 3 is the Remington Golden Bullets. At 10 cents/round, they can sit on the shelf...

I also noticed that at Dick's, their .223/5.56 bulk ammo was high. 420 round XM193 in a can at .50/round? Uh, no.... Even the 150 round bulk packs were in the neighborhood of .40/round...

My local walmart has a nicely made sign that says " Sorry, we are out of 22 rimfire ammo today "

Its been proudly on display for over 3years now......

22 is starting to make a comeback, which is very nice. At our local indoor range, they have tons of 22 for sale, at about 7 cents per round.

All of our local Walmarts are quite disgusting and habitually understaffed, so I refuse to step foot inside (two years ago, there was a LEO was shot and killed at a local Walmart). The understaffing attracts and emboldens the shopper who has no intention of spending money. Last time I went to Walmart to get some shotgun shells, I had to walk around for ten minutes to find an associate who could then call an associate who then took another five minutes to come open the ammo display.

Saxonpig,

Hang on to your hat because if a certain female becomes president, you'll see another run on guns and ammunition so buy what you can when you can afford it.

Just curious. How much was the 22 mag?

Our local Walmart(s)...two that I see regularly...are still empty of 22LR. They're had 17HMR forever, but no 22LR for going on....is it really 3.5 years?

I have yet to see anything but Remington Golden whatever bulk at Walmart.
I'll stick with my pellet rifle before I buy anymore of that crap.

The local Cabela's always has a bunch of 22lr in stock for $.08-.10 a round. About 25% over what walmart charges, so I can see why they keep it in stock :) Still when I wanted to try out a 22lr a few weeks ago and just wanted a few hundred rounds in different brands to try, I knew where to go.

The folks that have made reselling .22lr for inflated prices a business are about to go bust. And, I won't mind seeing them hurt real bad (financially) over this! It's going to be like the real estate bust of '06.

I'm still not buying any .22lr at this time; I'm going to bide my time as I have enough for now and wait until they can't give the stuff away.:):):)

I am generally not buying 22LR either these days either. I have quite a large stash which should do me years. That said, I was in Cabelas and I picked up a couple 100 ct CCI standard velocity. They only thing I am short of is the higher end target ammo and I know it's availabe, and 22 Mag. Cabelas had Remington 22 Mag for $25-$26 a box. I said, no thanks.

I noticed the same thing in two different WalMart's this past wkd. I have my own supply and haven't needed any but it's very nice to see so much return to the shelves. Let's hope after it's there for a while the sale prices kick in.

Sale prices at WW coming back? Not if we get the President I hope we don't get. If that happens, $0.10 a round will seem like a fire sale price, and the hoarders will profit. AR's will seemingly be made of gold...just like in the aftermath of Sandy Hook. Buy those black guns NOW.
