STI suggestions

Hello, I am thinking about adding a STI to my 1911 collection. I have several 1911s, but i was thinking that I should look at the 2011 line of double stack guns. I do not own a double stack .45. So which STI would you suggest? I like the Aperio and Legend, but WOW are they pricey. Is it worth it? I also was looking at the Range Master single stack. Any advice would be apprciated.
Thanks,

WK

Depends on what your uses would be. I personally like they're tactical line with rail for HD (preferably the 5.0) or their Perfect 10 for hog hunting. The ones you mentioned are solid contenders for competition shooting. The STI/SVI are very well known in the competition world. Yes they are expensive and yes I believe them to be worth it.

I have an STI built on a 2011 frame in .45. It's a custom build (not for me), has a funky Schuemann barrel/slide configuration. It is one of my most accurate pistols and a dream to shoot. I would shoot it a heck of a lot more if .45 acp wasn't so expensive right now. In fact, I'm thinking of buying another (heavier) STI frame just as a back-up (mine is built on an alloy STI frame), I like this gun so much.

I have a number of STI pistols, both single and double stack. Which double stack is right depends on what use you have in mind. I don't buy safe queens so the fancier looking pistols like the Apiero and the Legend never have really appealed to me. My Edge and Eagle are superb and are great for competition. In fact the Edge was developed as a competition gun. I also have a VIP on an aluminum frame that works for concealed carry. In between I also have a Tactical 4.0 with tritium sights that resides in my nightstand, but I've also shot it in IDPA style matches. All are terrific pistols that I think you would enjoy, it just depends on how you plan on using it.

I have been looking at STI also. All my 1911's are 9mm. I feel I should have at least 1 in 45. I may end up with another Kimber also as I havent had an oportunity to compare STI alongside others.

WillyKern69 - My Edge is in 9mm. When I bought it several years ago I wasn't thinking about competition, I just loved the gun. For USPSA competition 9mm only makes minor power factor and most Limited and Open guns that I've seen are .38 Super or .40 S&W. Unfortunately I can't use it for IDPA because of the bull barrel, full length dust cover, and recoil master, all of which aren't allowed. (I use an STI Sentinel or Eagle, both in .45acp with bushing barrels and full length guide rods for IDPA.) Having said that I do use the Edge in local league matches and it's a blast to shoot. In 9mm it's fast, accurate, and has the recoil of a .22.
