Stevens quality?

Any opinions on the Stevens 512 Gold Wing or the 612 Trail Gun? ... or on older Stevens models?

The new Stevens shotguns are made in Turkey. I would not buy one. The old shotguns were made in the US.

I have a Savage/Fox, cousin to the 311. It isn't a BAD gun for a SxS, but it certainly doesn't compare to the ones from Spain or Italy. You'll hear comments both pro and con regarding this line of guns with many folks feeling the older US-made ones were built better than the new ones made elsewhere.

Savage's Fox guns were all US made. Stevens also, and the more common models were decent quality field guns. I've had two over the years and wish I still had both.

Used recommendations?

From what I'm hearing, I'm probably better off looking for a used gun in good shape to stay in my price range.
Opinions on what to look for used around $600 - $700 in an O/U or SxS?
