squeeky bolt

my Remington 700 has chirping squeek sound whenever you latch the bolt down after the forward stroke. It is a minor nuisance, and doesn't effect the way it shoots.

I have tried disassembling the bolt assembly, cleaning it out, lubing it up with no luck. It is a VTR in .308. An interesting thing to note is just recently my friend bought a 700 SPS in .223 and when we put my bolt in his gun, it no longer makes the noise. When his bolt goes into my gun it makes no noise either.

Something about the way my receiver mates with my bolt is making it squeek. Any ideas?

Is the squeek comming from the front at the lugs or at the handle?

If it's from the rear at the bolt handle you could try lapping the area with 600 grit lapping compound. Don't be too aggressive with it, it shouldn't take much working to smooth it out. I wouldn't recommend lapping the lug area though...

Recently aquired an SPS 700 in .308 which did the same thing, no matter how much lube I placed on the lugs. As stated above, the chrip will eventually disappear after you shoot it enough.
