Springfield mainspring housing lock

I recently bought a Springfield GI champion lightwieght and it has the lock on the mainsping housing. How hard is this to remove? I am thinking about replacing the housing with a flat one,(the stock one is arched)but besides that what else do I need to order? How difficult of a job is this? (its my first 1911) will this void the warranty?

It won't void your warranty and it is taking me longer to type this than it will you to swap out housings.

I haven't looked at the internals of one with a lock on the MS housing. Obviously, if the internals are the same as any other 1911 style then all you need is the new MS housing. Unless you have one of those neat little disassembly blocks, sometimes it's easier having a helper assist you when your pushing the MS down and have the helper remove the little keeper pin, this is almost a must when reassembling.

I won't comment on the warranty

I have a Springfield Mil-Spec, and I just don't use the MSH lock, but it's kinda nice to have as an extra security measure.
