Speer Gold Dot Ammo Recall

There were some problems with primers dating to last summer. We are
recalling all Gold Dot sold to law enforcement as a general safeguard.
Overall it is not a large problem, but we felt, due to the nature of law
enforcement, that the recall was the correct course of action. Most will
never experience a problem.

The problems have been corrected. There have been very few actual
occurrences of problems, but the law enforcement recall is a precautionary
procedure.

Here is the lot numbers of the Gold Dot ammo being recalled.

J26Gxx to J30Gxx (September 2001)
K01Gxx to K31Gxx (October 2001)
L01Gxx to L30Gxx (November 2001)
M01Gxx to M31Gxx (December 2001)

A01Hxx to A31Hxx (January 2002)
B01Hxx to B28Hxx (February 2002)
C01Hxx to C01Hxx (March 2002)

Also the labels will be a part number for specific breeds of ammo. The ONLY Gold Dot parts numbers being recalled are:

53612 9mm 115 gr. +P+
53614 9mm 115 gr.
53617 9mm 124 gr. +P
53618 9mm 124 gr
53619 9mm 147 gr
53730 9mm 124 gr. (US Govt Spec and Sales)

53947 .40 165 gr. (Mostly sold to BATF)
53961 .40 155 gr.
53962 .40 180 gr.
53970 .40 165 gr. (US Govt Spec and Sales)

Hey Bill!

I have some of the 124gr. +p stuff. What exactly is wrong (i.e. blows up...doesn't go bang etc.) with the ammo?

What do I do with it?

The stuff I got isn't normally available at a dealer (non law enforcement).

The primers may not ignite. If you have any ammo that falls under this Law Enforcement Recall, just take it to the range and fire it up.

I bought a case of the .40, the 43962. Shot up about half of it in my BHP. Absolutly no problems. I am hanging on to the rest of it.

I have 8 or 10 boxes of the 124g 9mm +P listed here. Will Speer exchange it for non-recalled ammo? I'm not in law enforcement. I got a good deal on it ($8-$10 per box of 50) and it has worked fine so far, but I planned to keep it as my self-defense ammo. It is frustrating to have stocked up on this, then seen that some of this same ammo is marked "Not for Law Enforcement" or something like that (with no explanation), and now to see that it is recalled. When I bought it (at gun shows) none of the boxes were marked in any way to indicate that there was a problem with it. I knew the price was excellent, but it is still about double what I pay for practice ammo, so I hate to just shoot it up for practice. It seems like Speer should replace it if some is defective - law enforcement or not.
