Simple Scout Rifle?

I'm sorry if this has been covered before. Would it be possible to mount a LER scope forward of the action on a lever action rifle, perhaps in .30-30, and have a light, fast "scout rifle?"

What are the drawbacks?

TazPhd. Yes it is possible. As a matter of fact, Burris and, I believe, Wild West Guns, make mounts to do just that.
