Silly question: 458 Socom AMMO in Dallas...?

Just wondered if anyone has ever seen any of this ammo for sale in the DFW area? Contemplating a purchase of the rifle and finding out ammo is hard to find. I will be reloading when I get the brass built up but I need new ones to start with.

I haven't but never really looked. I ordered brass and bullets online before I even had an upper. Loaded ammo is stupid expensive and a waist of money IMO.

It might be a bit spendy but check Cabella's. The one Austin sells it. I forget how much it was, but it was pricey. The one in Grapevine probably carries it too.

I will check Cabelas as they are a mile from me now in Allen. On line they do not show any for sale in that caliber but sometimes the individual stores may carry them. Too bad other major ammo makers have not jumped on the bandwagon on this caliber.

The only other place I can think of right off hand is Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine Mills. I am not sure how far that is from the Cabella's store. Though I am not sure they carry it. If Grapevine Mills does not have it, I doubt the Garland/Rowlette store would either.

Found some at Cheaper than Dirt 6 miles from me up the highway. Purchased (80) rounds of SBR Factory Ammo. (3) boxes of the blue tipped Barnes 300 grain TTSX bullet and (1) 20 round box of the 300 gr. JHP's. $230 worth for (80) rounds. Guess what, the (60) expensive ones would not function my rifle. RRA mid-length gas system. Not enough gas pressure to work the action. I had to pull those bullets and dump that H110 powder and refill them with Reloader 7. it works the action properly, chunks the cases 8-12 foot away and it is accurate and at Max pressure/velocity. They sold out but they have restocked with (32) boxes of the TTSX rounds and (20) of the JHP's if anyone is interested.

That's what I ment by stupid expensive. You can get the brass for $75/100 and 500/405g remington soft points for $144. You could have shot 420 more rounds for pretty much the same money if you put them together yourself.

I needed some sort of rounds to go with my new rifle. No one else had any rounds, period. Yes I do reload them and had planned to all along but I needed brass to start with and at the time I got it Starline had not made any new cases yet this year. Now I have a total of (225) cases and now have (175) loaded. I agree it is stupid expensive but when you figure in the case cost and bullet cost, they are not that way out of line.
