Hello all,

when i disassamble my sig and remove the slide, the hammer is cocked back. when i lower it, should i be using the decocker or thumbing it? i know to always use the decocker but im talking about when the slide is removed. also, when putting the slide back, should i be thumbing the hammer back or allowing the slide to to cock it back as im putitng it back on?

Thanks for your help.

When you remove the slide for cleaning - leave the hammer cocked. After you clean the gun - just put the slide back on.

I would recommend you do not pull the trigger or drop the hammer with the trigger when the slide is not on the gun ( and there is no reason to).

Assuming you are talking about a P-series pistol, use the decocker. If you use your thumb, and slip, the hammer will strike the legs on the sear. Also, the hammer might lose engagement with the reset spring if the gun has one.
