WHat shot gun would you recomend to someone that is wanting to start getting into both trap/skeet shooting and some hunting.

It has to be 12guage (I'm over 6 foot and can take the recoil)
Can't be semi auto or pump because of the laws in Aus.
Preferably U/O.
and under $750AU
and well fitted to a larger person!
THanks all.

MK

P.s i'm happy to go second hand.

I like the Ruger Red Label, also the Mossbergs (made by other people) and CZ's are also worth a look in my mind.

Not sure what the market looks like there and what you can find though price wise.

Mitchell,

Same names, different games -- just so we know we're talking about the same things… Are you talking about Trap and Skeet as they are shot in the USA or the games, of the same names, that are shot in International and Olympic competition? The Tasmanian Clay Target Association makes reference to both kinds with facilities from Hobart to Kings Island.

What game do you hunt in Tasmania?

Also, if you could give us some sort of idea of what guns are available in Tasmania and their prices in $AU.

In a similar thread, I suggested that LowSider check out shooting club bulletin boards for guns for sale. Do Tasmanian gun laws allow private sales?

No, you can't..no one can over time...I'm bigger and heavier and I hate recoil

Other than that - looking at an O/U, I would see if Beretta or Brownings are available in your country - find the one that fits you the best

If the gun fits you properly - then recoil isn't going to be a problem / assuming you use a reasonable shell.

I don't have any idea what's available for the money in Australia ....but up here Browning and Beretta both give you a lot of gun for your money.

$ 750 Australian is about $ 732 US ..../ when up here entry level O/U's from Browning and Beretta are about $ 1,750 US ....so up here, you would have to search the used market and get really lucky to find a Beretta or Browning in your budget - but it can be done...
