I saw a front page article in my local paper today that said Senator Feinstein has just introduced new gun control legislation that will call for the licensing of all gun owners and the registration of all handguns and semiautomatic firearms. Timing of this with the Mother's Day MMM was obviously done to gain political momentum. It's interesting how Feinstein vowed to introduce this sort of legislation right after a shooting at a Jewish Community Center in CA. last year. She is calling for registration of handguns as a way of stopping this type of crime, yet this terrible incident happened in CA. where we already have handgun registration and have had for many years. Obviously the registration scheme did nothing to avert that shooting just as it has done nothing to stop any other shooting in the state. This is a social issue and it will never get any better until the underlying social problems are addressed, no matter how many gun control laws we enact.
