Search Function help?

Was trying to get threads with "academy" and "bushmaster" in The Art of the Rifle.

Search kept producing all threads with "academy" OR "bushmaster." Not exactly the narrowing down I desired.

What's going on with the Search function? Is there a Boolean character set I don't know about?

Unless something was fixed in the past hour, it seems to be working properly. I tried "academy AND bushmaster" and "academy bushmaster" argument groups (without the quotation marks), limited to the past year. Both returned only 1 post by member "bushy". The boolean operator "AND" is always implied, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't now required. Using "academy OR bushmaster" returned many posts.

What was the exact search argument you used?

academy bushmaster (limited to just The Art of the Rifle).

Still turning up 329 hits for me, whether I do an Advanced Search or a Search this Forum while in The Art of the Rifle.

When I use academy AND bushmaster, I get 267 hits. They still don't have both search strings in them.

As you can tell, I'm trying to find out about the AR-15's sold at Academy Sports.

Not much luck here. The searches over at THR do combine the search terms.

All I can say is "that's weird". I just tried it again using "academy bushmaster" and "Any Date" limited to Rifles and got only 4 hits all of which had both academy and bushmaster in the post. (All other parameters were the defaults.) I can see no way my search would be any different from yours. It shouldn't be browser related.

[A few minutes later]
I just verified that both IE and Firefox return the 4 correct posts.

If you wish, I can post the links of the 4 threads I found.

Got this message while it was "redirecting."

search terms: academy bushmaster
Search logic check...
Query point B
DISTINCT thread.threadid
MATCH(thread.title) AGAINST ('academy bushmaster') AND thread.forumid NOT IN (0,21,32,34,24,36,37)
itemids is not empty yet...
If no chatter above, there were no mysql results...

If I limit to just titles, I still get over 300 hits with "academy bushmaster". Freaky.

Guess what? I just found the bug.

I was playing around with the search to find out why your message had so many forum id's in it. The "Sort Results by" option got changed to "Relevancy" yet I definitely did not change it. I then got around 400 hits on "academy bushmaster". I changed it back to the default of "Last Posting Date" and got the correct 4 hits again.

Check your setting of "Sort Results by". If it keeps coming up as "Relevancy" or some other setting other than "Last Posting Date", set it to that and press "Go" beside "Save Search Preferences" at the bottom of the screen.
