S&W Model 57 Birthday?

I found a possibly unfired Model 57 at my local dealer's last week and have started the paperwork. Gun is nearly pristine and comes with a presentation case. Interestingly, the blue box is plain blue -- no S&W markings at all. Was this common with presentation case guns?

The gun S/N N8779XX. I'm hoping someone can tell me when this one was made. Since it's recessed, but not pinned and it's documents are all Bangor Punta marked, I'd guess '78-'82 timeframe.

That 57 was made in 1981, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

Nice gun. I have a weak spot for the .41 Magnums.

Thanks guys.

The gun was apparently sold to my local dealer who's had it tucked away for a couple of years in its original shipping carton. I'm half tempted to leave it in it's pristine condition, however I really do love the .41 cartridge for it's flat shooting and good power.

The gun comes with a presentation case, however the blue foam lining is deteriorating. Anyone know where I can get replacement material? I'm thinking that I may be able to use a blue or green felt if necessary.
