S&w M5904

A friend of mine is looking at a used Smith & Wesson 5904 9mm. The weapon is a police trade in, and comes with a factory 15 round magazine for $299.

Is this a good pistol? Is this a good price? Should he buy or no?

N.C. I have an "04" and like the fact that it will eat any ammo and any reloads I have fed it. Easy to clean and handles well with my big club size fingers and hands. Fairly accurate with cheap S&B ammo, plus S&B cases work better for reloads than any 9mm brass that I have used.

It will also function with the cheap steel aftermarket mags. Mine too was a LEO trade in. I paid 4 bills for mine, but it hadn't been used much. I would suggest the Hogue slip on rubber grip, it make a big difference in the feel and handling of the 04.

If he ever buys the Kel-Tec P-11, the mags will interchange.

I've seen S&W's 5904 in police service for some year's now,
and everybody that use's it for duty use loves it. One veteran
officer in my old department started out with a 5904 around
1990, if memory serves me correctly? And it's his "always gun".
$299.00 is not bad if the gun is mechanically reliable; if not,
then I would have to pass on it. $250.00 would be even
better.
