Not if it is what you want and you're willing to pay the price - check the various gun sale sites and see what the average is and go from there

The 686 - 5 is where you get into MIM parts / and the internal frame locks. I paid about $500 for a 686 -1 model 6" about 2 years ago / and prices are up now. I see a lot of 4" and 6" at $600 - $ 700 depending on how clean / or how early they are in production runs.

The 8 3/8" barrel is not as popular as the 4" or 6" versions of the model 686 - at least around Seattle / so I think he is a little high on an 8 3/8" barrel / but maybe $ 50 - $ 75 high, in my opinion.

I really like an 8 3/8" barrel in a model 29 or 629 .44 mag / but I find it a little too clumsy in a .357 mag ( which isn't logical ). If you like it, I would recommend you buy it - because I think prices will continue to go up on the pre-internal frame lock 686's.

I'm seeing quite a few of the older model 19's, 66's and 27's and 28's coming out of safes too / and they're in the same price range / with an old Nickel finish getting maybe a $ 100 premum / $ 700 - $ 800 on 4" model 27 Nickel etc / 4" model 19's in Nickel for $ 500 - $600 ( I just bought a Nickel 4" model 19 for $500 on Tue / and a model 66 stainless 4" for $ 425 ) up here - both in very good shape.
