S&W 64 Question

Hello folks, I have a S&W 64 that looks like it's stainless, but from what I know of the company's numbering system the model would be a 664 no? So is it more than likely nickel plated? I don't have a camera so I can't upload a pic. thanks

The 64 is stainless. There are several stainless models with two-digit numbers, i.e. models 63 and 67. The 64 is the stainless version of the model 10.

Model 64 is a stainless fixed sight K frame revolver. Mine is my boat gun. PS any S&W with a 6 as the starting digit in the model number is stainless. Some have 2 digits, some have 3.

There are subtle differences in the appearance of a S&W Nickel vs Stainless finishes...

In this photo of some of my .357's - the 4 guns on the right ....the first 2 from the bottom are model 19's 4" in Nickel / the top 2 guns to the right are model 66's stainless.

In this photo of some of my .44 mag's - the top gun is in Nickel a model 29 / and the bottom 2 guns are both model 629's in Stainless...

I like the Nickel finish very much / its a little warmer / almost a subtle yellow tinge to it ...

I find it easy to tell if a Nickel and a stainless gun are laying side by side ...but every now and then, at a gunshow --- I have to look carefully at a gun that is there by itself .
