S&W 629 Question

A fellow at work has offered to sell me a S&W 629 Stainless with a 6 inch barrel, I can't remember which. Unfired and no paperwork, which is not required between private individuals in the state I live. He got it in a trade with a rifle and wants $500. I know very little about revolver prices, does this seem to be a fair price? Thanks in advance for any info.

I think you meant to type 686. BBL length is probably 6", if its not, then 8 3/8. 6.5 and 7 are not standard factory lengths for a 686. If it's NIB with all factory accessories, it is about 75 to high IMHO. Usual disclaimers apply.

I saw 3 or 4 686s in the used counter at the local gun store the other day. Two with 4" barrels and 1 6" I think. They were all right around $400 and looked to be in very good shape.
