S & W 586 question

I have a question for you wheel gun experts, as I'm not . I bought a S & W 586 with an adjustable front sight. It has a 6" barrel. I did find a bit of info a info on the web. Any and all info would be appreciated. Model number does not have a dash. Serial number is AJN7XXX.
I think the front sight is called a silhouette sight ???

Congratulations! As I recall, it's for PPC (Police Pistol Combat) shooting. The front sight can be preset for the various yard lines shot.

Indeed, the front sight can be pre-adjusted to different yardages. Look into metallic silhouette matches and you will see the benefit
