the S&W 460 mag comes in several barrel lengths. i am interested in the 5 inch and the 8 3/8 inch models. i want the 5 nch model but i am worried about Muzzle Velocity. if i get one i will be using it for hunting sometimes and want as much velocity as i can get. will the extra 3 3/8 inches make enough difference to make it worth it. i know it will make some difference but just how much.

I don't know about velocity but alot of states put a min bbl length on handgun hunting. Here in OK a revolver must have at least a 4in bbl. Other states might be different, but it is worth considering.

Don't forget that the last inch on these barrels is a removable muzzle brake. You may want to call the ODNR to make sure that the shorter barrel is legal. Also, the sight radius of the longer barrel is easier to keep on target, if you don't plan on mounting optics.
