Trying to find out what I can on a gun I inherited. S&W 29-2 44 mag in wooden box, paperwork, missing screwdriver. Blue 6 inch barrel 98 to 99%.

It looks like the date is 1980.

The book I use to getinformation was printed in 1996, so I can't give you a value on it, but somebody else with the second edition should be able to.

If you have the original box, there should be a six digit product code on it, which will give me a bit more information.

The S&W as described would bring $600-800 bucks on GB. Condition is everything. Original box and papers would be worth more than a case. Cases are cheap, as are the tool sets, unless it's an old one from the 50-60's.

Standard Catalog of S&W gave the following values in 2006:
ANIB $850. Excellent $700. Very good $450. Good $400. Fair $350. Poor $250.
Sounds like yours rates as excellent. tell0004 is correct about the date of manufacture.
