Ruger MK II Volquartsen sear problem......

Ordered a Volquartsen sear for a MKII from MidwayUSA after reading numerous online reviews of how great they are.

Installed it in my Pre MKIII 22/45 stainless as it's my most often used competition gun and the one I had intended for it to go into. When I got it installed the gun will not fire. The sear will not release the hammer when the trigger is pulled fully to the rear.

OK, I thought maybe I'd either installed it wrong or something was out of spec on my hammer. Put the original sear back in and it worked fine. OK so I think I know how the sear goes in now at least.

Put it in my MK II Target to see if it would work there. Just got it back together and same thing. Hammer will not fall when trigger is pulled fully to the rear.

Now what? Do I just have a bad part from Volquarsen or ??????

Do your triggers have adjustable over travel stops? If so, they probably need adjustment to work with the new sear. (Note: as far as I know, most MKII Target Models came from the factory with a trigger that has an adjustable over travel stop).

Sorry, I was just editing my post to include info about most MKII Target Models coming from the factory with a trigger that has an adjustable over travel stop on it. The stop is a small set screw located a the top front of the trigger and is only accessible from inside the pistol. If you go to the waybackmachine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php) and paste in this url: http://geocities.com/felixthefish.geo/mkii_overtravel.html, you'll find a diagram showing the location and how to adjust the screw.
Regards,
Greg

BTW, I've read that some Volquartsen sears can be too tall to function correctly with the stock trigger; you might want to see about having them replace yours. http://guntalk-online.com/forum/vie...start=15&sid=98a35327da4043cc2915b2bb7442f32e

Thanks for that info. Will investigate the overtravel adjustment issue later this evening. I sent an email to volquartsen CS asking for advice as well. Perhaps they'll send me a shorter sear.

Hey RRN...bottom link in post #4. Best site for Ruger MK pistols there is IMHO.
Hit the home page and look at the service tab as well as the forums.
