will a m77 mk 2 stock fit my m77mk1 rsi? i would like to start working it up into the scout like rifle i want to have, and if i could simply replace it with a frontier laminate compact stock, that would be great. if not, ill work something else out, no worries ;)

thanks

I thought there was a recent thread here on this very subject. ...but anyway, there is no such thing as a Ruger M77 Mk1. It is just an M77. The MkII designation came out with the redesigned rifle. I checked three stock manufacturers and they have stocks for the MkII but don't list them available for the M77, or even any stocks for the M77. I have a 1984 version M77 in .30-06 which holds 5 rounds in the magazine. The MkII version in .30-06 only holds 4. This tells me there are dimensional differences in the action of these firearms that will preclude them from swapping stocks. Not to mention the hole in the top of the tang for the shotgun style safety on the M77, which wouldn't exist on the MkII.

You might contact Boyd's, Wenig, or Hogue stock makers and ask them.
