Let a friend shoot my trusty old 6" Stainless Security Six he was impressed, then he asked me how does it compare to the GP100.
So what ARE the differences?

One of the big differences is the grip frame where the SS has the Smith style "skeletonized" frame the GP100 has the smaller grip extension. The GP100 has a front locking "mechanism" (Ruger's terminology) on the yoke. The GP100 utilizes a non-rotating ejector rod. The GP100 has the plunger style front sight which can easily be changed. Of course the barrel profile is the most obvious.

...and it's heavier, doesn't feel as good in my hand as my Security Six and, to me, just doesn't balance as well as the Security Six. But it is a fine handgun.
