Took some handloads out to the range today with my Ruger American 308.
I'm gonna post the loads in case someone out the with this gun is looking for load data. I know I was when I first started loading for this gun and I couldn't find anyone posting their own load experience.
So here goes.
22" barrel 1-10 twist
165 grain Sierra HPBT
Reloader 15
WLR primers
Sierra lists 43.1 grains of RE15 as the max load for these bullets.
First load and what I was mostly testing was 41.5 grains of RE15. Easily shooting 1" groups at 100 yards.
Out to 200 yards I was pegging metal animals nonstop.
I also tried 42.3 grains of RE15. Could have just been my shooting but it seemed to be slightly less accurate at 200 yards.
The last load of 43.0 seemed to decrease accuracy even more at the 200 yard targets.
Next time I go out I'll be testing out some more loads between 41.5 and 42.3 but for now I'm pretty sold on 41.5.
