What would it take to convert a Ruger77/22 in 22WMR to 22LR? Is it as simple as rebarrelling it?

I found an extremely cheap and almost new 77/22 but i really dont want a 22WMR.

Thanks

It would be difficult to do and get good results. The 22 WMR is longer, the 77/22 Magnum action is longer, and just rebarreling would give you lots of feeding problems. You could rebarrel to 17HMR, if you like that chambering. I own several 77/22s and I really like the rifles. I also own a 77/22 Magnum, and although I do like it, I often ask myself "what was I thinking?".

Even the stock would not fit !! Might add that these are great rifles and get better with a trigger job.

Work a trade with someone. I'd bet there's someone in your area that would trade a Model 77/22 for yours. Or maybe a different 22 LR.

As a last resort you could probably work a trade at a gun store. I saw a Ruger 77/22M for $650 USED in Cabela's yesterday. Must have some trade-in value.
