Just picked up a ruger 10/22 stainless and was wondering if any of the high capacity clips were worth the trouble and what is their usual cost?
Thanks in advance.

The last gun show I went to hi cap 10/22 mags were godawful expensive. The prices started at $50 +. For that cost you could get the hot lips (?) set up where one can attach four ten rounders together. Or buy a couple Ruger ten rounders and enjoy. My two cents...

My 10/22s have always worked well with Butler Creek Hot Lips. A friend and I, as I have mentioned on other posts, had tried all of the other hi-caps a few years ago (before the restriction) in determining the best. USAs, Eagles, Ramlines, etc. were not even close compared to how well the BCs worked. Have never tried BC's metal lipped ones, though. The 25 round BCs I've seen anywhere between $50-$100. I've seen ads for 50 round Ramlines for $125!

Now these are my 10/22s (4 different unmodified receivers and bolts + 1 more - my friend's 10/22). I don't know how well the BCs or others will work in other 10/22s. It's ashame they are no longer cheap as you could then do your own trials on your gun.

Stick with the Butler Creek Hot Lips for hicap mags. Be prepared to pay $60+. As an alternative, buy the gizmo which connects 2 or 4 Ruger factory mags together. I bought a 2-mag version for $10 at a gun show. It's not exactly a hicap, but it saves a little time.

Oh, and get the Butler Creek mag loader to. It will load any 10/22 mag, hi-cap or not. This will save your thumbs. The part of the feed lips that hold the rounds in the mag in the Hot-Lips have very sharp corners. When you load by hand, these corners will start to dig into your thumb and if your thumb isn't callused or thick skinned, it will become bloody.

I can only echo what dalpra and hksigwalther have said, although I have found that if you get an extended mag release you can use factory mags almost as fast as a high cap. I also recently found a source for reasonably priced 30 and 50 round mags. email me if you're interested.

So far, these replies are right on the money. I have one eagle 50, and 2 BC 25's. The eagle worked for a couple years, and then stated malfunctioning. But the BC's are still going strong. I will say though, that I never use the BC's. I just get tired of loading them. I'm sure that if I ever broke down and bought one of the BC speedloaders, life would be easier, but I've still got stuff to buy for my AR, my M1a, and my HK. When I've finished all the rest, maybe I'll go back and buy that last piece of equipment for my first, almost forgotten love... my 10/22.

The best clips I have found to work with the 10/22 were made by Eagle Intl. Before the ban I would buy these 30 rd clips from WalMart, no lie, for $8.89.
Before Eagle I used a Mitchell Arms 50 rd wind-up tear-drop clip. The clip had a die cast metal follower and lips

10/22 mags

One more fan of Eagle mags. I bought some 2 weeks ago at Whittaker Guns in Owensboro, KY for $9.99 each. I have seen them on ebay for around $20, even though she are a banned item for ebay.

Check out www.whittakerguns.com they have the deal on 30 rounders. As for quality of Eagle mags, I have about 10 of them. Sent one in since I was having problems with it feeding, week later BRAND new one was returned to me. Great Service.

I have seen 25 rounders at local sporting goods store ( ACADEMY SPORTS) for 19.99. Also have seen several at less than 25.00 in Cheaper than Dirt and the Sportsman's Guide. Unfortunately I don't remember what brand any of these were. I bought a handful of Butler Creek 25's at a yard sale a couple years ago for a quarter each!!! but I doubt you'll have that kind of luck.
