• Anything ‘published’ on the web is viewed as intellectual property and, regardless of whether it displays a copyright symbol or not, is therefore copyrighted by the originator. The only exception to this is if there is a “free and unrestricted reuse” statement associated with the work.

In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Thank you for your cooperation and your participation in TFL, the leading online forum for firearms enthusiasts.

The payless perserverance is appreciated.

It looks like you just flat ran out of obstacles. A causual host could well have either just chucked the whole idea or shortcut the treatment with a fresh hard drive and started it over from scratch.

Thank you for not only saving TFL but managing to save the TFL legacy.

Y'all'd be gettin some home-cooked covered dishes from us so you could catch up on some sleep, if we were a little closer to Florida. You guys deserve a round of applause, and about a week's rest.

Thanks for not ditching the whole server and starting from scratch. I know it was tempting.

RICH - TO NOTE: I'm not sure if this is related, but I had noticed increased junk porn email in my internet email account for the past few months, the same email I have posted here for my TFL user account.

As soon as you guys went down, junk email porn dropped off from the all-time high of about 15 a day to only 2 or 3 a day. When you posted you were hacked, I went ahead and killbooted my hard drives and started from scratch.

Junk porn email is still at a low. Email me if you have any questions.

Yankytrash.....interestipating observation. I also noted a drop in the amount of spam over the past week.

Hmmm

Well, that's certainly one to think about. I never noticed a difference, since my name's been put on every spam list imaginable....the Eudora filters handle this for me.

I don't know how much of the server data Brian saved...we have Apache logs and TFL logs, I know. But it would be real interesting to brows thru the sendmail logs.

Guys....do me a favor on some of that stuff...search the messages to see if you find the following strings:
thefiringline
206.63.176

If email addies were simply mined, it wouln't explain the enormous load on the Web Host. I would expect to see our server used as the originator to explain that load.

Jason-
Oh, that?

It really was down for only 20 minutes...for me. I did the changes and left for a few hours. (Forgot that the Board always shows active for me!)

Sorry about that guys...I forgot to turn it back on for access.

Rich et al:

I 2nd, 3rd, or 44th the motion... thanks for salvaging the data rather than just starting over. The TFL archives and past posts are a great resource, which I'd surely miss, and I'm not alone. Catch the wankers.

Hey! I noticed an increased spam delivery in the past few months, but it didn't change when TFL was out of service. I'll check the crappage to see if those strings were included.

Spam is one reason I didn't publicize my e-mail here. Nothing personal at all...

...and I'm glad the best gun forum ever is back in business. Thank you Mr. Lucibella and your able crew.
