Folks, maybe you can offer some help. I just took delivery of my new S&W 625JM yesterday, and I am really thrilled with what I see! (It will be later this week before I can shoot it, but I anticipate a wonderful experience.)

I note that my gun is model 625-8 and I have pondered a bit on that. Is there a listing available anywhere that shows what was changed in each revision? Maybe something like:

625-1: shortened the tip of hammer by approximately 2mm
625-2: increased time spent in bead-blasting process
---
---
625-8: added additional coolium overall to make gun look even cooler ;)

I know it's not really a big deal, but I'm just curious. :D

Dont know the anser to your question, but if you want to hot rod the revolver

I have a S+W 625 JM and sent a cylinder (had an extra cylinder) to Clark Custom Guns for a .460 Rowland conversion the gun now shoots .45 acp..45 Auto Rim..45 Super..and 460 Rowland in the converted cylinder.I had a black bear problem so I keep 255 gr,Cor Bon .460 Rowland loaded in the revolver.

I'd imagine that a copy of The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson would contain the information you seek. Handloads.com has a listing of the changes represented by dash numbers for many older models, but the 625 is not included (though its carbon steel sibling the M25 is).

If I had to guess, I'd say that the -8 probably represents the addition of the internal lock.
