Went in to my local pawn shop to buy some ammo…….and I see this. A stainless Charter Arms Undercover .38. Based on the serial number, most likely a late 70’s gun. The gun is in perfect shape and locks up tight. Bore is great and trigger is better than I expected. For $200, I had to take it with me.

Beautiful revolver sir. The research I’ve done puts the first stainless Undercovers at 1980-1981 after serial number 500,000. I believe they first appeared in the ‘81 gun digest. That is an extremely nice specimen! Congrats.

That was back when Charter was a good buy - my first ever centerfire handgun was a Charter Off Duty. Nice find, sir, and a steal at that price!

I have one of the blued Undercovers. It was my first carry gun. Carried it for quite a few years before I graduated to a Smith Centennial.

I had a blue one I got used. It ended up cracking through frame at barrel threads. Have no idea of round count before I got it, we shot probably 250 before it gave up the ghost.
