Remington pump 22 S|L|LR

Bought my dad a brand new Remington 22 pump. I think it is the 572 Fieldmaster.

I bought him several types of ammo for it. CB's, Aguila (those slow ones), Winchester LR, and Remington LR.

He is having issues feeding the CB shorts reliably.

Are these guns finicky on loading? Is there a good break in procedure?

I've got a Fieldmaster 121 made in 1947 that feeds everything I put through it...I mainly use CB shorts in it too.
