The Rem. is a fine rifle. I am debating between the Rem. and the Savage FP10 in .308. I'm leaning toward the Savage because of the accu trigger and I like the way the crown is cut as opposed to the Rem. The stock on the Savage is not that great, but can be changed if desired. Oh yes, I also like the large bolt handle. I have a huge hand. Where I am it sells for about $500.00. Not to mention it's accuracy out of the box. I was told 1" groups out of the box and I've seen it. Quite impressive.

If you haven't seen this article, it's somewhat up this alley with mention of the Tactical, Varmint, and Savage 10 FP. http://www.snipercentral.com/remspsv.htm

I have the SPS Varmint in .223 rather than the 308 Tactical you're looking at, but they have a lot in common. It's a nice rifle, particularly for the money. I had thought I'd start with it as a base model and add a custom stock and so forth down the road, but it shoots well enough that I can't come up with any justification to mess with it. Mine was sub MOA right out of the box with a couple of 5/8ths groups at 100yds. There's a video on YouTube of the SPS Varmint in 308 that was shooting 1.5" groups, but I suspect that's an ammo or shooter issue(?)

Looking back, I sometimes wonder if I wouldn't have been happier with the Tactical in .223 with the shorter, somewhat lighter barrel. I'm sure this after thought will come back to mind once I've reached the half mile mark on a snow covered field. ;)
