Remembering Wallus Gussler

Last evening, in the process of finding one good TV program, out of 100, I ran across this program on a Flintlock maker by the name of Wallus Gussler. Not only was it the best program of the evening but probably of the month. This guy is absolutely amazing and representative of many of his kind and time. In particular, I found the making of a barrel from a flat piece of steel, very interesting. This man created a FlintLock basically from scratch and I do mean scratch. Take your time watching it and hope you enjoy it. I sure came away with an appreciation. ...... :)

Howdy

That is a very old film. I first saw it in when I was in college around 1970 or so. Wallace Gusler was a very young man when it was made. He retired a few years ago.

Snooping around on the internet a few years ago I found the film on CD and it is part of my library now. By the way, the barrel was made of iron, not steel. Just about the only steel in the gun are the springs and the frizzen. Everything else is iron, just like they were made in the 1700s.

P.S. if you recognize the voice of the narrator, it is David Brinkley, of the Huntley Brinkley Report news team. Maybe too long ago for a lot of the members of this forum.
