Refinishing Walnut Grips....

I've got 3 walnut grips that are looking kinda ratty. Two of them have checkered panels. I'd like to strip off the old finish(looks almost like varnish) and apply a nice satin oil finish.

I'm all out of wood stripper, stains, sealer, and finish oil, so I'll be buying new supplies. Anyone have any favorites I could try?

Also any suggestions on techique, so I don't mess up the checkering.

Thank You...

Joe

I would look up a furniture stripper in your area and have them dipped . I had this done to a rifle stock and was very impressed , the checkering came out great . Good luck , Mike...

Joe, I use Dad's from Wal-Mart. Just put it on wait about 15 minutes then use a stiff toothbrush on the checkering. It may take two or three applications. Follow the instructions and it works real well. George

When your ready to put on a new finish, try several light coats of good paste floor wax.
It seals well, is tough and leaves the wood with a very nice natural look. If necessary, touch up is a breeze.
