Recommendations needed on economy spotting scope

I am looking for an inexpensive spotting scope. The primary usage will be my AR-15 (in .223) at distances of 100-200 yards. It will be rare to shoot it at 300, however I may. Any recommendations on brand, model or design types to look for would be appreciated. I searched this forum but found a bunch of older links. Perhaps something new has come up that may be more reasonable.

Thanks
John

burris and bushnell both have good sub 100 to close to 100 dollar spotting scopes. I would shy away from the BSA and Remington models you can get at wally world.

Slim Fast????? Come on you can do better than that.

Like all optics in general you get what you pay for. A $100 spotting scope is well a $100 spotting scope.

Ken, I am going to let you stay on that Slimfast diet for another week or so.

After that I am going to Fedex you a nice Peter Luger's steak with all the trimmings. You will then, gladly send me the Leupold Wind River Sequioa free.

All kidding aside, good luck on your diet. I thank God that I am blessed with a good metabolism. If I ever had to loose weight I would fail miserably.

I just bought a burris fairfield II as a starting scope. $200 scope, decent clarity. The clarity is actually closer to scopes in the $500-700 range. The adjustments feel good on the windage and elevation turrets.

My first few forays with it on the range actually have me impressed.

Get a decent 36x rifle scope, and use that for load development, etc. Pull it off and put your regular scope on (and rezero...) when you're ready to rock.

Spotting Scope, CHEAP!

For what its worth, you get what you pay for! ;) I bought a spotting scope at Harbor Freight tools. Its 20-60 x 60MM on sale at the time for $50.00. Regular price about $70.00. It comes with a tripod also. I have no complaints about it and it does the job for what I intended to do with it.
Check out their store or website at "HarborFreightTools.com" Item number of the scope is 94555-0VGA. Hope this helps! :)
