Recoil spring compatiblity: 1911/S&W1006

I like running a 20# variable in my 10mm 1911. I think this helps with recoil and frame battering in both directions of slide movement. That I know of, a variable spring is not available for Smith autos. I am wondering if I can put a 1911 spring in my 5" Smiths. I am at work now so I can't experiment at the moment. IIRC the diameters of the FLGR are similar and the length should be too so what else am I missing?

I would say yes. I called S&W about springs for my 1066 and they said they were the same as the ones used in a Commander.
