Reassembling the Cheetah

Got an 85 Nickel Cheetah and just took it apart to clean it. Everything's back together but the slide. Having a hard time figuring it out. Can anyone walk me through it and explain the process step by step. I know I'm missing something very basic. Thanks.

With the mag out and the hammer back load the slide reward first onto the front rails of the firearm. When the rear of the slide is flush with the beginning of the beaver tail reengage the take-down lever. That should do it!

Which way do I flip the lever up or down? I can make this budge...and I'm afraid of breaking it.

I find it easiest to hold the pistol barrel pointing down at my table top, to press the slide into the proper position, then flip the lever up to secure.
